What SA customers do online when they need a poultry farm
Figures from Google Trends on how South Africans search for poultry, eggs and live chickens, where poultry searches come from, and which searches are growing.
Swipe for more charts.
Most poultry searches are about farming, not buying
In 2025, South Africans searched “poultry farming” (52) and “broilers” (52) far more than “free range eggs” (4), “live chickens” (4) or “egg suppliers” (1). These are Google’s yearly averages for one comparison. The rising search for “poultry farming” was “how to start poultry farming”, so many of those searches are from people learning to farm. Buyers search for the product, so name what you sell on your page, like eggs by the tray or live chickens, with a price.
Limpopo searches for poultry farming most
From 2019 to 2025, Limpopo had the highest share of Google searches for “poultry farming” in South Africa (100), followed by Mpumalanga (90), North West (78), Free State (64) and Eastern Cape (60). This is the share of searches in each province, not the number of searches.

More people look for live chickens near them
From 2019 to 2025, “live chickens for sale near me” rose 600% in South Africa and “live chickens near me” rose 550%. “Where to buy live chickens near me” was a Breakout search, and “free range eggs farm near me” rose 140%. Put your farm’s area, where you deliver and the markets where people can find you on your page.

Google searches for “free range eggs” in South Africa averaged 63.3 in 2025, up from 46.2 in 2019 (our arithmetic). From 2019 to 2025 they were highest in October (68.7) and lowest in December (39). “Free range eggs price” rose 120%, so show your price per tray.
Poultry farm site we built
J Makofane Poultry (Pty) Ltd
J Makofane Poultry sells free-range eggs and live chickens from Ga Mapea, Burgersfort, Limpopo, and has been going since 2019. The page shows the prices up front: 30 eggs R55, 60 eggs R110, a live chicken R100 and delivery R20 in the Burgersfort area, each with its own order button. It lists the markets where the team sells, like Burgersfort Mall, Embalenhle Mall, Ekhaya Mall, Witbank, Middelburg and Groblersdal, and asks people to message to find today’s stall. It also explains how local women can sell for the brand on commission. People can WhatsApp or call one number.
We also build websites for restaurants and caterers, websites for couriers, websites for shoemakers, websites for perfume shops and websites for borehole drillers.
